Have you ever wondered wich is the biggest and most popular social bookmark site? I made a list based on unique monthly visitors, PageRank and Alexa Rank that will tell you wich social bookmark sites you should submit your articles too. The traffic of each social bookmark website is based on “Compete“, a great website wich gives you awesome statistics about other sites. The information in this list is very precise even if the results would be different by using Quantcast to analyze unique visitors for each site, instead of “Compete”.

Submitting to social bookmark sites is more useful for traffic and for link building than for PageRank. You should always try to get huge traffic and good backlinks instead of building a website only for PageRank.
For slashdot.org just create an account and start submitting your stories.
To get on the Netscape homepage you have to submit a story and this story needs a lot of “votes” to get on the homepage. If you write something really unique that nobody else has written before, you should be able to get on the first page of many social bookmark websites
Yes, site should be building for traffic not for PR!

Really, very good Article.
Digg is very popular but it’s really hard to get into the first page. Normally the front page articles come from well established websites and not from blogs, unless your article is really really unique or hilarious or just plain weird. I’ve had more success with stumbleupon though. Probably the community there is more suited with my type of articles.

Although I’ve gamed Digg before and did well, the quality of those clicks throughs were awful. All they did was come, see the article and hit the “back” button. I think I had about a .39 CTR overall.
Comparied to other networking sites, Digg just doesn’t deliver quality clicks for me.

If you want some good backlinks it can be usefull to use other social bookmarking websites like http://www.npgb.org with less traffic bec you then will be listed higher…
