I think Matt Cutts has just recently published an explanation on the SI. If I read it correct - pages in SI don't affect your ranking. I have examined mine and decided to simply let them be. I don't think there was any effective study done to this point that proves that it will actually hurt your rankings. I did learn that my robots.txt needs a bit of optimization for Google to avoid caching */feed and */trackbak pages :)

Maybe they don't affect your ranking but many websites have seen a search engine traffic increment once they removed some pages from Google's supplemental index. I'm still stuck at 900 supplemental results, I hope they go down soon so that I can see if it is really useful to get out of the supplemental index.

Great post, helped me iron out some of the queries I had about the robots.txt file. I haven't put your robots.txt on my blog yet. First I had one more query. Currently, my robots file included:
*******START******
Sitemap: http://manukhanna.com/sitemap.xml
User-agent: *
User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-
Disallow: /feed/
Disallow: /trackback/
*******END******

I am also using the <a href="http://www.seologs.com/wordpress-duplicate-content-cure/" rel="nofollow">Wordpress Duplicate Content Cure</a> plugin.

Will Using both the robots.txt file and this plugin cause any problems?

I would suggest to use only the robots.txt, these "duplicate content" plugins don't seem to give good results.

Why would I remove the pages from Google’s supplemental result index ??? How do you to increase search engine traffic? There are some great articles I came across , but this makes absolutely no sense to me. I will bookmark this , come back and check on the resposnses. Meanwhile, I will try it on a minor site of mine www.livesteaua.com.
Hopefully, you guys are smarter than me...lol, I know you are

Have a great day

I honestly don't understand why you would want to remove pages from index. To me the more indexed pages, the greater the exposure and traffic.

Please help.
