Ranking high in search engine results for certain keywords is sometimes really difficult but if you work hard and choose the right ones you should be able to get on Google’s first page.
First of all you will need some related keywords to your website and you will have to focus on them. To choose the right keyword you can use a keyword selector tool. Once you have chosen one or more keywords you can use a keyword difficulty tool to see if it’s hard to get on Google’s first page or not. Of course these kind of tools are not precise but thanks to them you will be able compare the difficulty of different keywords.
Once you have chosen one or more keywords you want to rank high for, you will have to work a bit on them.

let’s take www.linkrain.com and the keyword “SEO Friendly Web Directory” as an example.
As you can see from the HTML of Linkrain, the keyword “SEO Friendly Web Directory” is included in the Title, Keywords and in the description of the website. Also the text under the header contains those keywords. Finally the logo image is called “seo_friendly_web_directory” and these keywords are also the ALT text of the image.

Now that the site is optimized for this keyword, all you have to do is to get some good backlinks with that anchor text. You can buy links or make some link exchanges but make sure that the backlinks are content related to your website and that they have the chosen keyword as “anchor text” and as “title tag” (many times people forget to add the title tag , wich is really important.).

With this top search engine ranking tool you can check the search engine results for a given keyword and as you can see, following these tips brought me on the first page of Google search results for “SEO Friendly Web Directory”. These keywords were not very difficult but consider that:

  • I succeeded to rank on the first page with a PageRank of 0 (all other related websites on the first page had at least PR4
  • I ranked on the first page with a completely new website
  • Now that the Directory got a good PageRank, the next goal is to archieve the first position.

I will update this article once it’s done ;)

I found you from your DP forum post. To increase you position further, try moving your main keyword closer to the front of your description and your title. If all other things are equal (link structure etc) you should be able to out do at least 3 of the other sites above yours.

It was a good read. Thanks for sharing this. Don’t forget that some search engines make use of the META tags so it’s still necessary to put them, not just keywords in the title tag.

In fact I’m using the META Tags. Even if Google is the most important search engine, I would also care about those very small search engines sending you 1-2 visitors each day. Why not put some meta tags on if you can recieve some traffic from other search engines. I’m also optimizing this website especially for Google but optimizing it also for the other search engines, is a god idea :)
