Google’s ‘announcement’ certainly has caused a bit of confusion. Links drive the internet, for sure, so it’s no surprise that people are buying and selling them. Here’s something to think about, though - what if Google were to hide the Page Rank of pages - that would definitely cause an uproar! That would clamp down on sites buying links to earn PR, and traffic stats would become much more important, and domain age, probably, too. It would also be a better way than trying to get people to report paid links. Don’t be surprised if it happens…

Artifexus, this is a BRILLIANT idea. Hiding PageRank would solve nearly all problems about Paid Links. I really never thought about this, you could suggest it to Matt Cutts

What i’ve learned about buying links is never focus on just one anchor text or keyword or else Google will see this as spam. Buy links moderately, 10-15 links daily rather than bombing it with 1000 links on the same day or else you’ll end up like John Chow. Another interesting article i read (i forgot who’s the author) summarize that if you’re gonna buy links, buy it at the end of the month, why? well i don’t know actually.. i was hoping admin can elaborate this more and it could be an interesting topic. Well, just my opinion.

If you have something linke 50.000 unique visitors/day, you could easily get 100/200/300$ each link/month, even with PageRank 0.

This is another thing I’ve never heared about “buy them at the end of the month”. I will surely do some research on this…sounds interesting.

I think I saw something about this on DP - the guy was saying if you’re going to buy blog posts, buy them at the end of the month. That’s because blogs put the newest entries first. In the archives, your blog post will appear closer to the top of the list of entries, which may slightly benefit you with visitors and bots.

When Google has come out with that idea I think they were more hoping to rely on snitching. They know it is next to impossible to determine if link is paid or not unless someone has reported it. With multitude of websites it will be a task even Google can’t handle. But even assuming they come up with a way to separate paid links using identifiable keywords like “sponsored links”, “sponsors” etc, that many people put on their site - How will they ever be able to find out about paid links that come from specific keywords within content articles ? I have recently wrote about a service that allows people to purchase these type of links fairly cheap and value of something like that will never be undermined by Google or their snitches.

I guess paid links are facing penalties from Google. Noticed a big change during the recent update. Many paid link sites dropped their PR significantly, this move that Google made has also affected many websites around the world.
