Before you are going to sell links on your website, you have to decide if the link space will be permanent (at least 1 year) or if you want to charge a monthly fee from the buyer. Usually a permanent link is sold in Directories or on not-updated websites and a monthly fee is charged on updated ones. Why? Consider that you are working every day on a website and you have a PageRank of 3. If your PageRank will go up with the next PR update, you will be able to charge a higher monthly fee. On the other side if you sold already permanent links on the same site and your PageRank goes up, you cannot simply delete the links and ask for a higher price.
Let’s make an easy example:
There are 2 websites with a PageRank of 4, one offers buyers a link spot for 10$/month and the other website is selling permanent links (1 year) for 100$ (usually permanent links are discounted). Both sites have 10 link spots available and they succeed in filling all the spots. Two months after they sold all link spots, both websites go up to PageRank 5. “Website B” (selling permanent links) made it’s 1.000$ and it has to keep the links until the end of the year, “Website A” (selling monthly link spots) is able to keep all the buyers even after the price increased from 10$/month to 20$/month.
In this case the yearly earnings of “Website B” would be 1.000$. “Website A” would earn (10×10$)x2 for th first two months and (10×20$)x10 for the remaining 10 months, that’s a total of 2.200$ - more than two times the revenue of Website B.
This is what you have to consider before choosing between Permanent and Monthly links:
Permanent links
- can be sold on not-updated websites with a stable PageRank
- can be sold to get some quick money
- a link spot is filled for 1 year
- you already recieved the money for the whole year even if PageRank goes down
Monthly links
- price can be changed every month
- revenue from monthly link sales is much higher than revenue from permanent links if you fill all spots
- you can’t be sure to fill every link spot for the whole year
- if PageRank goes down, you have to lower the monthly fee
These are the rules you should follow if you are selling links for PageRank. Remeber that smart buyers search for websites with high traffic and popularity, not only high PageRank.
