Make Money by selling a link in a forum signature is not a dream but a new business. Everytime you answer a thread in a forum or open a new thread, you are allowed (not in all forums) to leave a signature. By doing so you are not only getting backlinks to the websites you add to your signature but also direct traffic from people that click on the links. Just immagine you reply to 2.000 posts, this would mean that all the links in your signature would be on 2.000 different forum pages.
Leaving links in a signature is thought to get visitors to the websites you list there instead of backlinks. On high traffic forums these links can bring a fair amount of visitors and that’s why people started to sell a “spot” in their signature for a monthly fee. The length of a signature is limited and it varies from forum to forum. In this article I will take Digitalpoint Forums as example.
The link sale section of Digitalpoint forums is the first place I saw, where people were selling a link in their signature.
How much is a signature link worth?
Basically it depends on the number of posts and if your are an active user or not (how many posts you make each day). People start to sell their signature after they have reached 400-500 posts and the prices starts at 5$/month. The more posts you write, the more you will be able to charge for each signature link.
With 1.000 posts you can already charge 10$/month for each link. A signature space on Digitalpoint is big enough to insert 4-5 websites so that would be 50$ each month just by doing something that you would do anyway (posting in forums).
The prices start to become incredibly high once you reach 5.000-10.000 posts. Recently I’ve seen a discussion about someone selling 1 link for 80$/month. This seller had more than 6.000 posts and he succeeded in selling all the spots.
There is also a very curious website that became a marketplace for signature links and that features a free tool that calculates the price of a link in a signature based on the total number of posts and posts/day. The tool should be used only for fun purposes because it does’nt seem to give realistic prices as output.
Is it a good idea to buy signature links?
Yes it is. Everytime the signature in a forum like Digitalpoint is changed, it will be changed in all the posts the author made. If you buy a signature from a forum member with 5.000 posts in different threads, your link wil be posted on 5.000 different pages. That’s why members of forums like Digitalpoint succeed in selling all their link spots.
How long do I need to work before I can sell signature links?
Posting in forums should not be considered a work. When you are going to register to a forum it’s because you are intereted in it’s topics and you want to share your knowledge with other forum members. Just start to post in threads your are interested in and you will see that it’s easy to reach 400-500 posts and start selling signature links.
Selling links in your signature won’t bring you the big money but why not earn 100-500$ every month for doing something that you like and that you would do anyway (or did you thought about selling your signature link when you subscribed the first time to a forum?
)

[…] few days ago I wrote an article about how everyone can easily make 500$/month by selling links in a forum signature. This is not the only way to make some money out of your forum […]
Very Good summary. Selling signatures can be quite lucrative: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=254908&page=2
Definately not a quit your day job strategy, but why not make some extra money since your already posting
Btw, DP only allows 4 signatures.
Great article, I had no idea sig’s could be sold for that much revenue, which I suppose could be seen as largely passive. However, I also recommend that forum users use the links to promote their own sites, and with a site like DP those links are counted as backlinks by the SE’s. Some threads have quite high PR and this is an easy way to get a high PR backlink, which I guess is why so many people want to buy links.
I never thought about using signature links as a form of seo.
What about this :
Links from Forum Signatures:
These do not carry as much weight in terms of SEO as one might think. Yes, they are one-way links, and yes, they can be from pages that have content relevant to your site. But that doesn’t mean much unless your links appear in a forum’s thread that is popular enough to be linked to from static web pages, or the thread’s URL doesn’t contain many random characters (historically they have been harder for search engines to index). Most pages at a forum are only linked to from one other page: the main category of the topic. Getting links on pages with little to no link popularity themselves won’t help your site much.
Some forums even use a ‘nofollow’ tag on outbound links as a means to curb link spammers. By all means, if you are a regular participant at forums, mention your site in your signature for the purpose of creating awareness and click-through’s from forum readers, but not solely for link popularity purposes.
