Yesterday I launched Linkrain’s new category “Questions and Answers” and I already received the first question today. Matthew from Blogaboutyourblog asked me ” if you had 400$ to advertise a blog like this one, how would you spend that money?

This is not really a big amount to advertise a blog for, but it’s still possible to get some really good and permanent backlinks for it.

First of all I would visit the link sale section of Digitalpoint were you will always find some great offers, and than I would start to acquire some permanent links (at least for 1 year).

1) Permanent links from blog networks are a great way to increase the Technorati Ranking of a blog (which is important for websites like Reviewme or Text-Link-Ads). This would also inrease my backlink number for a certain anchor text and help my blog to rank higher in search engine result pages.

After a quick look in the link sale section, I would definetly buy:

That’s a total of 924 blog posts I would get for only 73$. Usually owners of blog networks allow up to 3 links, with anchor text, inside each blog post. That would be a total of 2.772 backlinks to my blog for only 73$!

I would also spend the same amount of money to publish some articles on blogs that are related to mine. Usually you can get a niche blog post on a PageRank 4 website for 5$ and a PageRank 5 blog post for 10$ or less. The total amount of money I would spend for articles on different blogs would be of at least 150$ (73$ on blog networks and 77$ to get some high quality niche blog posts)

2) Permanent links from Wordcloud sites. I know that links from wordcloud websites will never be related to mine because they usually accept every kind of website, but I had some great results in search engine results by buying a lot of these links.

Wordcloud sites are so cheap that you can get PageRank 4 links for less than 3$, PageRank 5 links for less than 5-6$ and even PageRank 6 links for 10$. There are some things you should check before buying a link on a wordcloud site:

  • is it a real wordcloud site or was it built on an expired domain?
  • does it have at least PageRank 3? (I would never buy wordcloud links on websites with a PR lower than 3)
  • does this site accept porn, warez and illegal websites?

Once I have made a list of wordcloud sites that don’t accept illegal websites, have some real backlinks and were not built on an expired domain, have at least a PageRank of 3 and don’t cost to much, I would start to buy some links and spend another 100$ here (in average you won’t pay more than 2$ for a link) . This would be a total of 50 links acquired for ONLY for PageRank.

Here is a good tip on how to find Wordcloud sites:

Search Google for this sentence: (”total words available” “remaining” “sold”). Searching for the exact phrase in the parenthesis will give you a list of results containing most of all indexed word cloud pages. That’s because most of the word cloud sites include these 3 terms ;)

3) Permanent links (at least for 1 year) from Paid Web Directories. I submit to free directories only if I have some time to waste. The quality of paid web directories is usually much higher than the quality of free ones.

I don’t remember the source but recently a directory owner made an experiment about this: he submitted 1 of his websites to 4 premium paid directories while he submitted another one to over 700 free ones. The website that was submitted only to the 4 paid directories got much more backlinks and a higher PageRank than the directory submitted to over 700 free ones. I don’t think that submitting to free directories can harm a website, but it’s definetly not worth the time you need for the manual submissions.

With the remaining 150$ I would get a few featured listings in high quality directories. With ” high quality” I mean directories that have lots of backlinks, at least a PageRank of 5, an Alexa ranking below 100.000 and finally none or only a few advertisementes on it.

I hope you will find this answer useful Matthew. All readers are invited to partecipate in Linkrain’s new category “Questions and Answers”. So please drop a comment to this post describing how you would spend 400$ in advertising.

Well, if Mathew didn’t find it useful, I sure did! Thanks for the tips. I actually just recently bought some links from word cloud sites, and afterwords, I said to myself, “Hmmm, I don’t know how wise that was, that’s just a link farm.” Glad to hear that it’s useful to do just that. I have a question though, regarding the permanent links from blog networks: isn’t google going to pick up on the identical text in all of the blog posts and give them less weight? I thought about buying blog network links, but backed off. Wouldn’t writing unique posts for those networks be better, even though it’s more expensive to purchase (I know at leas 1 DPer was offering this if you wrote the articles)? Thanks again for the great info.

At the beginning I thought the same way like you about Word Cloud sites, but than I started to buy nearly 100 of those links and I got PR5 with the first Google PageRank Update (of course these were not the only links I bought before the update). Regarding your question about blog networks, check back soon to read the answer in “Questions and Answers” because this is another good one :D

Thanks for the great detail, now i know why some people do buy links from wordcloud. I’ve been a member of DP for quite sometime now and when i logged in i usually head straight to the link sale section to find any good offer especially blog network and wordcloud because these are among the cheapest way for link developement. But what if a wordcloud let say with built with expired domain pr5 still with lot of backlinks pointing to it, is it worth to buy?

As I described in the article about “Fake Pagerank Worc Cloud Sites” that you can read here: http://www.linkrain.com/articles/fake-pagerank-wordcloud-sites/ , it is not worth to buy links from expired domain word cloud sites if the owners don’t provide some new backlinks before the next Google PageRank update.

thanks for the time reviewing my question

400$ isnt that much, but its what I am going to invest. It was very useful and I appreciate it. I will probably do about 100 or so $ of sponsored reviews from sponsoredreviews.com and payperpost direct

not sure about the blog post thing, looking for your answer on the duplicate content

Please don’t waste your money on sponsoredreviews.com and payperpost. Contact the blog owners directly and you will get much more blog posts for the same money. I will answer the question about duplicate content very soon, stay tuned :)

    Another great tip!

I do have to agree with one of the previous commenter’s on wordclouds. Something I would avoid.

It all depends on the wordcloud site. There are wordcloud sites that only accept certain websites, sport websites for example. If you have a site related to sports and you get a link from a wordcloud site that is only listing sport links, it could be a valuable backlink.

Can you get penalized for having a PR wordcloud link? Great way of spending 400$ on link building.

After reviewing this article I honestly cannot think of a better way to spend the $400, you have done a great job helping the newbies.

Hats off to you. So few will help honestly without helping themselves into the newbies wallet.
