There are a lot of tools that try to predict the Page rank for your website with the next Google update. Are they reliable? Actually their not. When I first came over one of these tools I asked myself “how can they predict my page rank with the next update?” . I tried them for lot of sites, wrote their page rank on a sheet, and waited for the next Google page rank update (had to wait over 2 months).
The results did not surprise me: most of the predictions where wrong.
Websites with an actual page rank of 6 and a predicted page rank of 5, remained at 6. Many websites with page rank 5 and predicted page rank 4, remained at 5 and so on. On of the strangest predictions was for a website with an actual page rank of 4 and a predicted page rank of 7 (!!). What do you think happened with the Google update? Right! The website remained at 4 and never reached 7.
From my point of view page rank prediction tools are absoultely not reliable but they are still fun to use. Here are some of my favorites:
Iwebtool: my favorite tool because of it’s layout, beacause you can check 10 URL’s at the same time and it shows you how sure the tool is supposed to be about your future page rank.
Linkezer: i like it even if the layout is horrible
Rustybrick: The first time i used it i thought it was working fine but when it showed a page rank prediction of 10 for some websites i stopped using it immediately because it was a ridiculous prediction.
Futurerank: Same like iwebtool.
Finally i decided to make a last test.
This is the page rank prediction for www.linkrain.com on january 31st:
Page rank prediction 5, that would be a great result for a new established website, let’s see what happens with the next update.

The best PR predictor is the one who shows the higer PR :))
Probably they use a basic formula to calculate the PR, takes PR of all backlinks, and each divided to the number of links on the page, but probably those predictors don’t know that pages witn “links” or something like this in filename don’t count, or many others factors that are not known by us.

Yes…that could be right

well, there are no visible connection between backlinks, indexed pages and pr prediction.
First Site, PR 6, 400 Backlinks and ~ 2000 indexed pages ->predited pr -> 7,
Second, PR 5, 1700 Backlinks, ~ 20000 indexed pages -> predicted pr -> 5
??
who knows why: Matt Cutts ??
Timm but what if the 400 links of the first page have all a PR of 7 and the 1700 backlinks of the second all have a PR of 1?
Of course there is a connection between backlinks and PR.
A few back-links from high quality and PR sites are worth more thank 1000 back-links from low quality and low PageRank websites.
Iwebtool is down. OMG. Seems like they were using their tool from online utility and they got screwed.
Yeah, something strange is going on with Iwebtool…most of the tools are down since a lot of days.
