Recently I wrote an article on how to get some cheap and permanent PR7 links. As you can see by visiting the websites I have listed in that article, you will have to make a donation to get a backlink to your website. Everybody knows that Google is against selling links because they want PageRank to be natural. Actually Google has in mind to start an “anti link-selling campaign” :
As far as the details, it can be pretty short. Something like “Example.com is selling links; here’s a page on example.com that demonstrates that” or “www.shadyseo.com is buying links. You can see the paid links on www.example.com/path/page.html” is all you need to mention. That will be enough for Google to start testing out some new techniques we’ve got — thanks!
As far as i concern it will be nearly impossible for Google to prove that a certain website is selling links or not, but what about the Donation pages? These kind of pages usually are called donation.php or donations.php and are really easy to discover (just try to Google this “allinurl:donation.php”) so it will be a joke for Google to list all those sites and to consider the links on them worthless. Google will be able to proof that these kind of websites are selling links because it is written there.
Example:
If you donate at least 60€ (or equivalent), you may have your website linked directly from this page (for minimum of one year). If you donate at least 200€ (or equivalent), you may also have your website linked front page (with Google PR8) for duration of one month. If you subscribe for recurring donation of 200€ for 5 months, you get the link for the sixth month for free.
Hopefully Google will keep it’s policy “don’t be evil” and not try to destroy the link sale market (Donation pages, directories, link sale forums, direct link sales and so on).
