Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant Google ads on their website’s content pages and earn money. Because the ads are related to what your visitors are looking for on your site — or matched to the characteristics and interests of the visitors your content attracts — you’ll finally have a way to both monetize and enhance your content pages.
It’s also a way for website publishers to provide Google web and site search to their visitors, and to earn money by displaying Google ads on the search results pages.”
The second part of the Google Adsense definition is the one we will focus on in this article. Every publisher using Google Adsense is trying to earn money and some people really make a lot using this kind of Pay-per-Click advertising.
More clicks means more money, so it is important to optimize a site for Adsense and at the same time keeping your site clean.
Here are a some tips every publisher should read before starting with Google Adsense:
1) Don’t make “Adsense sites”
A lot of people create “Adsense sites”, websites without content, with a bad layout and full of Google advertising. These websites usually earn nearly nothing and will surely not attract visitors because they’re boring and useless. I even think that Google is going to fight against this advertisement spam in the future
2) Choose the right format
The best performing format is the large rectangle (336×280) and the skyscraper (160×600) so you should try to integrate these formats into your layout. Another format that works fine for me on other websites is the 728×60 leader board banner, it’s click trough rate is not as high as the one from the rectangle or the skyscraper but still much better than the CTR of a small 125×125 button or a 468×60 banner.
3) Blend your ads
Blending the ads is one of the easiest things and one of the most important to optimize Google Adsense and increase your revenue. For perfect blending your ad should have the same “border color” and “background color” of your website’s background , the same “text color” as the text color you are using for your content, the same “url color” as the color you are using for the links on your webpage. On the other hand there are people that say that blending the ads is not the best solution. They say that ads with attractive colors will have a higher CTR than blended ads. I work with Adsense only since 2 years and after a lot of optimization I reached the highest CTR with perfect blended ads

4) Drive traffic to your website
People sometimes spend months in optimizing the ads and completely forget that they won’t earn much without visitors. Traffic is everything. If you receive a lot of visitors and you have done a good optimization job, you will make a lot of money.
5) Choose the right position
Some positions will perform better than others. For example the left side of a page is performing better than the right site because people read a page starting from the left side. The center will perform better than the footer. Ads at the beginning of the page are better than ads you can only see if you have to scroll down. In the image you can see the best performing positions (deeper color means higher CTR). Remember that due to the Google Adsense TOS you are not allowed to put more than 3 Adsense units on one page.
6) Use images with Adsense
This is one of the latest Google Adsense tips and I have not tried it yet but there are people saying they quadrupled their CTR using images togheter with the ads. Here is an example how this can be done:

Finally remember these important things:
-
Never change Google’s HTML code
-
Never click on your own ads
-
Block low paying advertisers with filters

I’ve been reading a few forums and blogs about Google Adsense tips lately, and thought it would be helpful to consolidate as many as possible in one place. Traffic is the key. Also optimized your page which come from search engine.
I would say Traffic and blended ads are the key. I know about a lot of websites that receive tons of traffic but have a horrible CTR because of non-blended advertisements.
